Terms of Service
Last updated 21 September 2026
Use the rooms as a guest, for as long as the clock runs. There is no account to open, nothing to subscribe to, and no promise that what you put in a room will still exist in an hour.
The service
4momentary is a place to open a temporary chat room and share its link. There is no account and no sign-in: you are a guest, and holding a room's link is what gets you in. Rooms are not moderated or reviewed, before or during use, and the service is provided free of charge.
By using it you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.
Expiry is real
A room ends at T. When it does, its messages, images and roster are gone: not archived, not recoverable, by you, by the host, or by us. Do not use a room as storage or as a backup.
A room can also end sooner than its clock: the host can end it for everyone, and a restart of the server drops the rooms it is holding in memory.
Your conduct
Use rooms lawfully. Do not use them to harass anyone, to share content you have no right to share, to distribute malware, or to break the law. Do not try to overload, probe or break the relay, or to reach a room you have not been given access to. Bulk and automated posting is not welcome.
You are responsible for what you send, and for what you attach your name to.
Host powers and access
Anyone holding a room's link can enter it while it is live. The host can rename the room, lock it, slow it down, require display names, and end it for everyone.
A private room is only as private as the password and how you share it; send the password through a different channel than the link if the door is meant to mean something.
What you send
You keep everything you write and everything you attach. By sending it to a room you allow us to relay it to the people in that room for as long as the room exists. That is the only permission you give, and it ends when the room does.
Images are downscaled in your browser before they are sent and capped at 1 MB. See the Privacy Policy for what the relay holds and for how long.
The Moth and your key
The AI companion runs on your own DeepSeek account and key, and any cost it incurs is yours. Its answers are model output: they can be wrong, incomplete, or confidently invented, and they are not professional advice.
Check anything you intend to rely on, and be aware that the companion can read the room's messages in order to answer. You are responsible for what it says on your behalf and for the key you deploy it with.
Ownership
We claim no ownership of anything in a room, and we take no licence to it beyond carrying it to the people you sent it to.
Because nothing survives expiry, there is nothing for us to keep, sell, or publish.
No warranty, and the limit of liability
The service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind. It may be interrupted, rooms may end early, and the relay may lose what it holds in memory.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost content, or for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change, and the date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use the service after that means the current version applies.
